Chapter 2 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 58, no. 4), “Roles of the Census,” summarizes the role of the census in US society: its uses in politics for reapportionment, redistricting, and distributing federal funds; its applications for business, public health, and social science research; and its importance as a free and open dataset.
