Chapter 1. The Access and Delivery Problem for Libraries

Aaron Tay

Abstract

While the problem of discovery has been a long-standing area of study for academic libraries, recent trends and developments have shifted interest and focus to improving access and delivery for users. In chapter 1 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 58, no. 6), “The Access and Delivery Problem for Libraries,” we distinguish between the problem of discovery and the problem of delivery and discuss reasons why libraries need to focus on the area of access and delivery now. The chapter ends with a note on how the rise of open access affects the delivery issue.
