Chapter 2. Projects, Programs, and Research Initiatives
Abstract
Chapter 2 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 52, no. 1) “Library Linked Data: Early Activity and Development.”
In the past two years, a number of projects, programs, and research initiatives have launched, each seeking to further expand on the understanding and philosophy around linked data (LD) in libraries, archives, and museums (LAM). As some of these projects reach maturity and enter production they are allowing LAM institutions to deprecate old systems, leading to a true migration away from historic metadata practices. This chapter reviews the goals, context, and gaps of large-scale projects such as BIBFRAME, DPLA, and WorldCat.
