Chapter 1. The Current State of Linked Data in Libraries, Archives, and Museums

Erik T. Mitchell

Abstract

Chapter 1 of Library Technology Reports (vol. 52, no. 1) “Library Linked Data: Early Activity and Development.”

The evolution of linked data (LD) in libraries, archives, and museums (LAM) has continued at great speed in the past few years. While the large LD publishers who were in the field in 2013 remain active in new projects, use cases and issues are emerging to help shape the migration of metadata and the creation of new information systems. Drawing from a 2014 OCLC survey, reports from large research libraries, and journal articles, this chapter reviews library linked data projects.
