Abstract
I n 2012, Jonathan Hunt, coordinator of library services in San
Diego, CA, and former member of the Newbery, Caldecott,
Printz, and Los Angeles Times Book Award committees,
asked a pointed question during a presentation at an ALA conference:
“What kind of book could be a gateway drug for nonfiction
readers?”
