The Significance of the Sibert: Brian Floca and the Value of Informational Books
Abstract
Winning a Robert F. Sibert Medal or Honor for an informational book is one of the highest achievements for most children’s authors or illustrators. Author/illustrator Brian Floca has received this recognition not just once but four times. Three of his books—Lightship (2007), Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11 (2009), and Locomotive (2013)—which he wrote and illustrated, along with one he illustrated, Jan Greenberg and Sandra Jordan’s Ballet for Martha: Making Appalachian Spring (2010), were named Sibert Honor books
