Accessibility for Individuals with Disabilities in Academic Libraries

Abstract

The current study explores the accessibility efforts of academic libraries in supporting patrons with disabilities,
with a focus on the implementation of assistive technologies, accessible furniture, and other accommodations. A
survey was distributed to academic librarians across various listservs (ARL, ACRL, and ALA) to gather data on current
accessibility practices, challenges faced, and areas for improvement. The survey included questions on the availability
of assistive technologies such as screen readers, Braille displays, and text-to-speech software, as well as physical
