Reflections on the Adoption and Integration of AI Tools in Academic Libraries
Abstract
As universities expand artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives and library vendors add AI-enabled features
to research platforms, academic libraries are increasingly asked to evaluate, explain, troubleshoot,
and support tools they may not have selected or fully shaped. AI integration into databases raises
important questions about how library workers can evaluate and support these tools with care,
accountability, and professional judgment when vendor documentation, campus governance, pricing
models, and long-term support structures are still developing
