Acid Rain: The EPA’s Approach to Water Pollution
Abstract
The United States government’s approach to addressing acid
rain has evolved over the past several decades, with the implementation
of new methods for tracking emissions and targeting
polluters. The government’s response to acid rain before
1990 was to place responsibility on individual citizens without
regulating the power sector, which is the source of most acid
rain–causing pollutants. With the Title IV amendment to the
Clean Air Act (also known as the Acid Rain Program) in 1990
